Will Cricket Players Not Get Salary For IPL

IPL was around the corner, but Corona virus Covid-19 has changed the scenarios. Entire India is on 21-day lockdown till 14th April. Entire world is disturbed with this Novel disease. Active cases in India has increased to 1466 out of which 133 are cured. There have been 38 deaths so far from this disease and 1 person has migrated.

Everything is shutdown except the essentials services (grocery, bank and medical services). Covid-19 has impacted the cricket industry. Matches are postponed or cancelled to stop spread of disease. IPL was also postponed but seeing the current situation which is showing increase in new cases day by day there are chances that IPL might be cancelled if things are not in control in some days.

Players might have to lose huge salaries if IPL gets cancelled. As per one of the senior officials of an IPL franchise, the system of IPL payment is players are payed 15% of the amount at the start of the tournament. 65% of the amount is paid during the tournament and rest 20 % is paid within the demanded time or when the tournament ends.

“The BCCI has specific guidelines. Obviously, no player will be paid as of now,” he added.
The Indian Cricketers’ Association – President Ashok Malhotra said that even domestic players may have to accept the pay cuts if there is huge lose of thousands of crores for association because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently BCCI might be looking at alternate window, but they have not come out with anything for now. As per another franchise official players are not insured for the salary for such pandemic cause. This might be another problem for players.

BCCI earns its money from the cricket itself and as the cricket is on halt for now then where will the money come from. As per Arun Dhumal, BCCI treasurer – There is not any discussion about pay cuts going now. IPL is BBCI’s biggest tournament but at this point it is very difficult for them to do any calculations around the losses now.

Situation is not right, hoping for the best but if the problem persists for long then both international and domestic players will be affected by this novel COVID-19 disease.
Right now, not only cricket industry but many other industries like Travel Tourism and Hospitality are affected majorly and Asia is majorly impacted.
